Beauty with heart

What's popping?!

You guys obviously saw that one coming nhe? I've been holding it off but finally had to say/write it. Anywhoo going home (EC) for about a week, where I will be regrouping as Emily Thorne of Revenge would say. I'm totes excited, haven't seen my family since December, going home is expensive yo', a person really feels like a refugee kule Kapa.

Anyway the purpose of this post is to introduce you guys to The Body Shop's Beauty with Heart campaign. I recently had a meeting with Rosie Abdy Collins who is The Body Shop's international community fair trade buyer. She's based in the UK and her work is awesome because she travels all over to source the yummy ingredients in the Body Shop products. The marula for example is sourced from Namibia, beeswax from Cameroon, shea & cocoa from Ghana and honey from Ethopia. The Body Shop has already converted 90 % percent of their products to include at least include one  Community Fair Trade supplier. This means peoples' lives are enriched, there's job creation and more children affording school uniform and study material- that's the whole purpose of the Beauty with Heart movement.
Thanks for the pictures Shelley!

That's Rosie, she couldn't wait to go back home to plan her wedding

...Now we're here

I said at the beginning I'm not sure how much of myself I want to put out there. But you're know what? Life is about creating opportunity, who knows what doors may open in the near future?
Here's some of my work from the last coupla months, mostly on the editorial side, also a bit of coordinating and sourcing for fashion pages. Doubt it needs explaining but ask me anything you want...

Started from the bottom

Like many media enthusiasts will tell you, internships are very important. They're about building character, making sacrifices and  hard work amongst other things. My first internship role was at The Herald newspaper in PE in 2009. By the World Cup season, I had moved in CT and pushed for more.

This was in 2010, time flies :-)

CT hits

Morning peeps!

Here's what I'll miss most about CT:

~The mountain...DZHU-UH!! As cliché as it sounds, there is something healing and romantic about the beloved Table Mountain. It may not pay the bills, but its still one of the world's wonders.

~ Bargain shopping. I'm a lover of vintage and in my opinion, CT has the best stalls and shops out there. If you're looking for antiques or vintage clothing and accessories, you just need to stumble across a few places. My best stall is owned by a lady called Lulu on corner Church and Burg street. Lulu sources jackets, boots, skirts, dresses and shirt from all over. She's got amazing style herself, I'll try to get a pic of her before I go. Not far from her is sunglass and watch stall, and next to those guys, you will find these old ladies who sell AH-mazing accessories! *sigh*

~ Thursday nights, aka bad decision day. It happens almost every Thursday, one has had a long ass week and just needs one glass of wine to unwind. You get to that secret pub you and your friends love, talk about stuff, someone decides to get a round of tequila- who the hell are you to say no? Next thing THAT song (mine is Fun ft Janelle Monáe: we are young) plays on the JUKE BOX!! Hayke! Isukile! Everyone is in  state of euphoria and no one ever talks about going home. No guessing how Fridays at the office turn out.

~The people. I will obviously miss my tight circle of friends. They have been my family and they will always be. I'll miss everyone I interact with on the daily; from the car guard that greets me with a wide smile on my way to work, to the laundry lady that insists I buy bigger clothes when I need her help to zip up a dress, to the random faces at gym that have become so familiar that I actually notice when they have been slacking.

~My hairstylist. Oh madoda my sweet Linda!! I've yet to tell her I'll be leaving. We girls tend to develop a friendship with someone who touches our hair, because well, if you don't, you will always be that unpleasant client who is never satisfied. Linda and I have had many disagreements about my hair, but I've always walked out so thankful and pleading with her to move in with me. She has a heart of gold and she is a mean machine when it comes to braiding hair.
...with all my heart

New beginnings

Introduction

I've finally done it!  I've started my own blog.
I do not know how much of my life I wish to reveal, nor which course this blog is going to take.
What I can tell you is that I am a lover of wine, fashion, the outdoors and I have a new love for watching series'. Revenge is the best! What amazing ones are out there? Obvi I'm into rom-coms and other lovey dovey stuff! But I do like some drama here and there.
In a months time I will be unemployed, I'm moving to Joburg, so will be sponging off my sister until I get something permanent. Actually being unemployed is such a terrible word, lol. I'll be freelancing!
I won't lie it took some long, hard thinking, sleepless nights and migraines to get to that decision but I have made it and will hopefully update you guys. I'm currently in CT but hey, I also want a chunk of that gold mchana, kunzima eKapa! Especially in my field. But ke, I don't regret my three to four years here because I've gotten some invaluable experience through internships (for two years, with no income) at some amazing magazines, then finally I got the job I am currently holding. Amazing people, I should add;  haven't even fully drafted my resignation letter. What do you think I should say?
Anyway my friend named the blog for me, she has been bugging me to do it for the longest time. Thanks Vuyo.

So stay tuned to more of what's popping in Koko's life.
